Sowore Calls For N500,000 Minimum Wage For Civil Servants

Civil rights activist Omoyele Sowore has urged the Federal Government to increase workers' wages to N500,000, saying it will enable them to plan for their future and have a better life.

Speaking to journalists at a public event in Lagos, Sowore said civil servants have not been living decently in the past three years and called for urgent correction.
He argued that a family of four cannot afford a balanced diet on current pay, and he called for a living wage for career civil servants who have sacrificed for the country.

Civil servants are the engine room of good governance, he said, and their welfare must be improved through effective implementation of government's programs.

He added that, given recent price increases, current salaries do not allow workers to secure quality housing, education for their children or plan for retirement.
Sowore urged the Federal Government to reduce the cost of governance so that resources will be made  available to care for the welfare of public servants nationwide.
